Influencing Those around You

         -A Conversation of Grace

It is hard for some of us to witness to others and I think part of the reason is because we fear rejection. But there are many ways to witness to others. We don’t have to preach on a street corner – that would be hard for me to do – I think that by your actions and by listening to the concerns of others you can witness to them. One of the best ways is to let people “catch” you being a Christian. Here is an experience I had when I was a young mom.
We lived in a suburb of St. Louis, a very busy subdivision with lots of children. Of course when my kids were little and were out playing I was outside with them with the other moms making sure that everyone was safe. This was a really good time to have conversations with the other moms and share things that worked and didn’t work in raising our kids. I wouldn’t say that I was always talking about my faith but I didn’t hide it and I talked about our church and activities. I belonged to a Woman’s Bible Study and would invite other moms. People could see that our family attended church on Sunday. So even though I didn’t realize it, I was witnessing to my faith. I had a call from one of the moms, Julie, one day to ask me about which church I attended and a little bit about my faith. Her husband Dave, their son David and she didn’t attend church - she could tell there was something missing in their lives. I am pleased to say that they started attending our church and after we moved away and came back to visit their family was still involved and participating in many activities at church.
I think it is really important for all of us to think of ways that we can witness to our friends and family. Just remember that you can do it in a way that suits your personality.
Have a great day!
