What It Takes to Witness
-A Conversation of Grace
When I was asked to write this article, I didn’t know where to begin. How do you witness your faith to others? My faith, family, friends and church are the most important things in my life. It only seems natural that they are all part of my everyday conversations. But still, I don’t know that I’ve ever purposely approached anyone with the intent to witness.
This past January, I went with our middle school youth to Youth Quake in Baltimore. There I experienced a heartwarming reaction to Christ’s love through the eyes of the kids … especially my son, Paolo.
Paolo seemed to come home with new found faith. He was on a spiritual high – laughing, singing, and even playing an invisible guitar! He had a wonderful time, made new friends, and was especially impressed with the musicians – two of which we got to spend some time with at the end of one evening. He said, “I was surprised that famous people like that were really friendly. They talked to me and really listened too. When they told us some of their stories, I realized that my life was really good and easy compared to theirs. But God eventually turned their lives around, and helped them to use their bad experiences to help kids like us through their music.”
It was a great weekend to say the least, but it didn’t stop there. When Paolo went back to school (public school), he was telling his friends about Youth Quake and how much fun they had. One of his teachers overheard the excitement and asked what church he went to. She and her fiancé had just moved to this area last summer and were looking for a church. This prompted one of his friends to ask his parents to visit OSW as well. Now Paolo has even more friends to enjoy time with on Sundays!
It seems that when you just let go, live your faith, and share your experiences with others, the Lord jumps in and makes your cup overflow. Maybe that’s all it takes to witness.
In His love,
Sharon & Paolo Dugo
